Diane Stahler's Class
Welcome to Grade 3! Our normal daily schedule looks like:
Breakfast
Morning Meeting
Word Study (spelling)
Writing
Reading Workshop
Recess/Lunch
Math
Recess
Social Studies/Science
Phys. Ed/Art
Our units of study currently include:
- PATTERNS --We are working with the hundred number board to find patterns
of multiples. Can we make predictions about numbers? We are almost ready
to begin our next Mathland unit--strategies for computation.
- SOCIAL STUDIES -- We are learning about early settlers and the town of Sheffield.
- WRITING --We are starting to write using the painted essay format--context,
focus, details, conclusion. This is in preparation for our NECAP tests
which will be the first 2-3 weeks in October.
- READING --We are all reading independently. We continue to focus on
summarizing, visualizing, predicting, making connections, questioning, and
providing evidence from the text. This year we will be receiving the
National Geographic magazine instead of Time for Kids. I am really excited
about this change. Please keep reading the fluency papers sent home
each Monday. It is making a difference for those who are practicing.
