Author's Night
Mark Breen, visited our school. He is the senior meteorologist at the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium, and for over 25 years he has been heard on Vermont Public Radio's an "Eye on the Sky" each weekday morning. Along with weather forecasting, his work at the Museum involves teaching weather and science, as well as serving as the Planetarium Director in Vermont's only public planetarium. He is the author of the popular kid’s book, "The Kid's Book of Weather Forecasting".
He described how he came to write a book, the process and publishing of his book. With experiments, observations and activities children learned to predict the weather by understanding the science behind it. Many of the weather instruments in the book he explained and created for everyone. All joined in singing the Weatherman song.

Safe Surfing with your Family
http://yahooligans.yahoo.com/parents/communicate.html
"Safe surfing" is a family affair. Please consider the following safe surfing guidelines: Parenting for the virtual world is very similar to parenting in the real world. Your kids don't go anywhere unsupervised before you're sure they know the rules and how to handle themselves. They don't talk to strangers if you're not around.
Before Your Child Goes Online:
Create a "Family Pledge for Online Safety" that states what your children are and are not allowed to do online. (www.yahooligans.com/parents/createfamilypledge.html)
Important Rules for Caring for Library Books |
1. Clean your hands before reading your book. 2. Never write, scribble, glue, or cut the pages of a book. 3. Save your place with a bookmark, not by folding a page. 4. Turn pages carefully using the top corner of the page. 5. Carry your book in a book bag to keep it safe. 6. Put your book in a safe place at home, away from babies and pets. 7. Return your books on time. |
Call Numbers, Fiction and Non-Fiction
|
Books in the library are put on the shelf in a special order. Each book has a number. This number is called a call number. It is found on the spine of the book. A call number is a group of numbers and/or letters that tell you where to find a book. Remember: A call number is not made up of just numbers. Some call numbers are made up of letters or both numbers and letters. |
Library books are sorted by fiction and non-fiction books.
