5th Grade Home Room

Science class meets daily.  On Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays we meet for longer blocks of one hour and twenty five minutes.  On Tuesdays and Fridays we meet for 45 minute periods.  Our class consists of labs, lecture, and project time.

Biology and Butterflies

We will be working on our biology unit until February vacation.  We were able to pilot a kit from Carolina Biological called Organisms: From Macro to Micro.  There are a lot of great labs and activities in this unit and we have been spending a great deal of time using our microscopes.  We have also set up six mini-greenhouses in the classroom, with two of them doubling as butterfly houses.

                             Science Fair - Forces and Motion

After February vacation, we will begin working on our Science Fair projects.  This year the focus in Middle School will be Forces and Motion.  The unit will begin with an introduction to the concepts of Forces and Motion, then students will select a topic, design an experiment, perform their experiement, and make a science fair presentation board.  Students completing the project will be eligible to participate in the Science Fair at Lyndon State College, which will be scheduled in late March or early April.

Babies

In April, the 8th grade will begin their most anticipated unit with the Baby Think it Over Program.  Students will be able to bring home a computerized infant simulator which cries and gives cues for feeding, changing, and fussing.  Students will bring home an information sheet, please call if you have any questions.

Grades 5, 6 and 7 will be focused on the human body, while the 8th grade is doing the baby unit.  We will be discussing Wellness through exercise and nutrition.
